Sports events with impact

Carlo is a marketer through and through, gained a lot of experience as a publisher in the Netherlands and abroad. As a participant with the Bikewriters in Tour for Life, he thought: top event but that's what cyclists who aren't riding for a good cause want too.
Not much later, he contacted Bert Cocu from Moev and the first event 'The Ride' became a reality. Carlo and Bert together established the International Cycling Foundation, under which events like The Ride, The Ride Pyrenees, The Ride Dolomites, The Ride Gravel, LtD Gravel Fest, LtD Gravel Raid, Flanders Gravel, and Meewind Koers were organized. An impressive list and what's particularly notable is the share of gravel events.
“Yes, that's right, we quickly realized that gravel riding has a future in cycling. We got in touch with Laurens ten Dam and came up with LtD Gravel Raid. A weekend full of gravel fun, good food, drinks, and entertainment. A completely different experience of cycling. Not that serious attitude cyclists can have, but just having fun. It actually caught on immediately. Besides early adopters, cyclists also joined in who were looking for more freedom, nature, and less traffic. And my role is different there too. At The Rides, I am mainly the 'Race Director' and quite visible to the participants on the road and during the evening program.
My daily task prior to the events mainly involves initiating and guiding the various events. I am responsible for the marketing strategy together with the marketers from Moev and also for recruiting and engaging with sponsors. Because without sponsors, it's not possible to organize our beautiful events."






The start
It all begins with passion. Carlo is a gifted cyclist who occasionally participates in competitions. After a long career as an (international) publisher, he decided it was time for a change. He took the plunge and turned his biggest hobby into his job.
Online
Conceiving a cycling event is one thing, getting participants is quite another. You mostly find them online with targeted marketing campaigns aimed at the right audiences. For this, Moev works with online marketers from Catch of the Day and supports this with tools from Atleta.
“Right from the start, we chose a good and user-friendly online registration system from Atleta. Super important to manage your leads and convert them into participants. Never regretted it because we could segment, analyse, and make better choices about what works and what doesn’t to our heart’s content. Moreover, we offer our participants many upgrade options, which must be easy and also friendly to our administration. And really, it's quite challenging to launch a good cycling event sustainably in the market. After all, you want the event to be a keeper and to grow. Usually, we succeed, but of course, it sometimes goes wrong. It's part of it.’
The Ride
A cycling tour from the Stelvio to Valkenburg in 8 days is one of the major highlights of Moev. In 2022, the peloton rode for the first time from the Ventoux to the Cauberg. The Ride has now established a considerable status in the cycling world. As a cyclist, you really must have done this tour at least once.
“Looking back, I am most proud of this event and what we have achieved together with the sponsors and volunteers. A well-oiled organisation that primarily allows the participants to cycle over the most beautiful routes and takes care of everything else for the participants. You only need to cycle and enjoy."


Kim Cocu
Operational Manager of Moev
Kim Cocu is Operations Manager of Moev, former top athlete, previously event manager of charity events such as Tour for Life and Run for KiKa Marathon. Has a beautiful racing bike but doesn't ride it much due to busy schedule.
“Due to my pregnancy with our twins, I started with Atleta a bit later. I immediately noticed the user-friendliness. You have an excellent overview of all events and editions. Not unimportant because we have many repeaters. The embed function of Atleta for the website is great. You just remain in the environment of your own website and Atleta adapts its style and colour scheme beautifully to our sites.
What I also find important is that Atleta has also arranged everything concerning privacy well. Atleta works with large parties such as the TCS Amsterdam Marathon, Mud Masters and the Nijmegen 4Days March. It gives peace of mind, allowing us to focus on the marketing and the organisation of our various events."
Upgrades and products
Events are no longer just about managing registrations well. It is also about offering upgrades, products, and options to, for example, transfer your ticket to someone else or cancel it under certain conditions.
“At our events, we offer countless combinations of ticket options and upgrades. This used to take us an incredible amount of time, research, and administration for Atleta. With Atleta, that's excellently managed and it saves us so much time!.'
Partners and sponsors
Not unimportant in Moev events are the partners and sponsors. They often receive tickets and VIP packages as part of the sponsorship package.
“What our partners and sponsors are happy with is the ability for them to manage the tickets directly in Atleta for their relations. Think also of discount codes etc.
And what makes me very happy are the features like deposits, handy because we sell tickets with a value of € 1500. Not everyone wants or can pay that in one go. Participants automatically receive the payment requests spread over several periods. We often work with Early Birds periods, Atleta automatically adjusts the price, so I don't have to quickly adjust a price at 12 o'clock at night...
For us, it is also important that when we request new features, we are listened to by the people behind Atleta. And if it adds something for other customers, they develop that feature. Without any additional costs by the way. Atleta is super easy to budget. You only pay a small amount per registration.
Lastly, I mention the refunding of tickets, that can indeed happen. Also, that is a breeze, with one press of the button it is done. Administration happy, we happy and the participant happy. What more could you want.“
